Dream of Sky

Javonte Patterson Baltimore Polytechnic High School

Did you know that there are entire worlds in the clouds?

Where the children are made of stardust and their ancient ancestors still guide them.

I visited once

I gained wings and traveled through their life

Their kingdoms.

However It was only a taste of what they had to offer because only through death could you fully experience their life.

My story begins after my end. You may get a glimpse of Eden, our destination, where you come from.

But you will not achieve it until we flow like a flower on the wind and journey into the land of sky.

Become children of light.

In Javonte's poem, I identified key themes and used them to illustrate an image centered around ancient ancestors guiding children made of stardusts through a world of clouds. The slow flow of an hourglass from left to right serves as a metaphor for the passage of life toward death, and the child depicted in the hourglass slowly drifts off to sleep from the moment of opening their eyes to the moment of closing them.
